As a student and as an employee finding a place to live is an independent endeavour. Your University or company may be able to offer you support in this area, but in the end it depends on what you are looking for. In major cities, suitable housing can be especially hard to find.

Local newspapers usually have a section on housing, shared flats, etc. Local student unions can also be very helpful.
Don't forget to check university bill-boards - they often offer private places to rent for reasonable prices!
